Broncos Demaryius Thomas Sets Super Bowl Receptions Record In Losing Effort

DENVER (CBS4) - No player has ever had more catches in a Super Bowl than Broncos Demaryius Thomas, it's just too bad it happened in such a bad loss.

Denver's offense only managed one touchdown against Seattle in Sunday's 43-8 loss to the Seahawks. Thomas caught a that pass from Manning in the third quarter.

It was one of 13 passes he caught in the game, but it overall Sunday's game didn't mark one of Thomas' best efforts. Although he had 118 yards receiving, the All-Pro wide receiver was never really able to break free for a big gain.

Earlier in the third quarter he had his longest reception of the game -- 23 yards -- but Seattle cornerback Byron Maxwell knocked the ball out of his hands and the Seahawks recovered the fumble.

The previous receptions record in a Super Bowl was 11, which four different players had. One of those was Wes Welker, Thomas' teammate. Welker finished this Super Bowl with 8 receptions for 84 yards.

The record for most receiving yards in a Super Bowl is 215, held by Jerry Rice of the 49ers.
