Boys & Girls Clubs Of Metro Denver Expands
DENVER (CBS4)- The Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver are serving more children than ever this year.
That's in part to the organization taking over five Beacon Centers from Catholic Charities.
"On average 96 percent of our kids come from poverty and struggling homes and struggling neighborhoods," said Beacon Centers spokeswoman Regan Suhay.
The staff at the centers gives lessons on tying ties, provides organized sports and helps with homework and crafts.
Now the centers will be expanding to offer Boys and Girls Club programming.
"There have been so many amazing opportunities afforded to our kids and to our families," said Suhay.
The extra centers added about 1,500 children to the Boys and Girls Clubs.
"Consequently the Boys and Girls Club becomes their home away from home and we are just delighted to serve these wonderful young men and young women," said Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver spokesman John Arigoni.
This holiday season will be a challenge as the Boys and Girls Club tries to meet the needs of all the children in the program.
"Christmas time can be a hard time for children. It's nice on the holidays to have some extra support," said Suhay.
This holiday season CBS4 and King Soopers are teaming up to collect new toys and cash donations for children and youth served by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. King Soopers is collecting new toys at all Denver metro Area locations through December 23.
