Audit Says Pediatric Hospice Care Lacking

DENVER (AP) - A state performance audit says pediatric hospice care is lacking in Colorado.

Auditors said Tuesday they questioned whether the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing has met its intent to provide compassionate and consistent care to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of children with fatal conditions and their families.

Only nine children who were enrolled in the waiver program between December 2008 and March 2010 received supportive care.

Department officials told auditors they would develop written directions and conduct annual training classes on implementing the program.
