In central Illinois, a tornado hit the town of Bryant on Tuesday, bringing widespread damage to homes and businesses.

Severe storm watches and warnings are in effect for parts of Illinois and Indiana. Meteorologist Ed Curran has the latest.

This comes after he issued a disaster proclamation Saturday night to make sure communities impacted by the severe storms get the immediate help they need.

Police say the southern part of the town took a direct hit from a suspected tornado around 11:30 p.m., knocking down power lines and blocking roads with debris.
The Red Cross of Illinois has sent several volunteers to Mississippi to help with recovery efforts, after more than two dozen people died when a tornado caused catastrophic damage across the state on Friday. The Red Cross said it's providing shelter, meals, and emotional support.
The tornadoes also flattened entire communities, and more extreme storms could be on the way. CBS News' Mike Hellgren reports.

At least two tornadoes touched down in the suburbs Monday – including one that was caught on a homeowner’s security camera in Plainfield. CBS 2's Jermont Terry reports.
