The original location at 501 N. Chicago in Joliet opened on June 22, 86 years ago. Now the Joliet Area Historical Museum is taking over the building as part of its Route 66 collection.

Hundreds of classic and modern cars along old Route 66 Saturday in Berwyn from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The free show runs along Ogden Avenue from Oak Park Avenue to Ridgeland Avenue.
You know them when you see them. Large, lantern-jaw fiberglass statues once used to draw attention to everything from auto repair shops to hotdog stands.
After a bidding war, the Gemini Giant was purchased by the Joliet Area Historical Museum for $275,000.
The statue was put up in 1965 outside the Launching Pad Drive-In restaurant and Americana gift shop in Wilmington.
"Each chapter is a state that goes through Route 66 and there are eight states. And so you have to tell the story of each state and what baseball looked like."
