Winter Storm Warning Issued For Chicago Area

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the Chicago area, in effect from 9 a.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, the snow will begin late Tuesday or early Wednesday morning, possibly starting has a mix of rain and snow.

The warning applies to Cook and Will counties as well as Northwest Indiana.

Illinois and Indiana counties farther south are also affected.

Heavy wet snow accumulations of 1 to 7 inches are likely, with the highest totals south of Interstate 80 in Cook County and in eastern Will County.

Snowfall totals could vary substantially over short distances with some areas within the warning likely seeing much less snowfall.

In Northwest Indiana, expect heavy wet snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches. Snowfall totals could vary substantially over short distances with some areas within the warning potentially seeing less snowfall.

As a result, certain trucks will be banned from the Indiana Toll Road.

After the storm system pushes through, colder temperatures were expected Thursday and Friday, when highs will be in the mid 30s, before a mild weekend, with temperatures in the mid 40s on Saturday, and the high 30s on Sunday.
