Police: Men Brought Baby To Two Of Several Robberies In North Suburbs
(STMW) -- Two 20-year-old men have been charged with a string of robberies at north suburban businesses — two in which they brought along a 1-year-old child, police said.
Allan L. White served as the robber while Manros Nickens III was the getaway driver in most of the incidents, according to Waukegan police. Both, of North Chicago, were charged with two counts of aggravated battery and one count of endangering the life of a child. White is facing six robbery counts, while Nickens was charged with four, police said.
In the first two robberies on June 23 and June 25, White snatched a gold chain from a female's neck as Nickens waited in a getaway vehicle, police said.
The June 23 incident happened about 1:30 p.m. at a laundromat in the 2400 block of Grand Avenue, while the second happened at 8 p.m. in a pharmacy in the 1800 block of Belvidere Road, police said.
The pair is accused of bringing Nickens' 1-year-old child to the next two robberies, both on July 1.
Police said White walked into a grocery store in the 2700 block of Grand Avenue about 8 p.m and attacked a male employee before taking his gold chain in the parking lot. He then ran to the getaway car driven by Nickens, police said. The employee suffered a laceration to his hand.
A half-hour later, White entered a pharmacy in the 700 block of North Green Bay and stole a purse off a female waiting in the checkout line, police said. A surveillance video provided by police shows the female chasing the robber.
White committed the last two robberies on his own at 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. on July 8, police said. In both incidents, he stole a gold chain off of a female employee. The first incident happened at a dry cleaning business in the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Drive in North Chicago, while the later robbery happened at a shoe store in the 2700 block of Grand Avenue, police said.
On Friday, a Lake County Judge ordered each man held on a $500,000 bond, police said. They are next scheduled to appear in court 1:30 p.m. July 28.
