Man killed in Southwest Side hit-and-run identified

A man killed in a hit-and-run crash on Chicago's Southwest Side on Tuesday night has been identified.

Police said a 53-year-old man was on the street near the sidewalk in the 6800 block of South Pulaski Road when he was hit by an orange Honda just before 11:15 p.m.

The orange car fled the scene. Surveillance video captured the hit-and-run crash.

The victim, identified as Enrique Nieto, was taken to Christ Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

CBS News Chicago spoke to the victim's nephew, Cesar Nieto, who said he brought his uncle a spare tire before the crash.

Cesar said Enrique was changing the tire when he was hit by the orange car and dragged nearly 30 feet.

"I was next to him. So I jumped out of the way, I was closer to the back bumper," Cesar said. "He was by the tire, like crouched down, and the truck hit his truck."

Cesar said he tried to keep his uncle alive by talking to him and staying with him until paramedics arrived.

No arrests have been made.

Major Accident detectives are investigating.
