Woman found dead after house fire in north Chicago suburb, coroner says
A 77-year-old woman was found dead following a house fire Sunday evening in Mundelein.
The Lake County Coroner's Office said just before 5:30 p.m., police and fire crews responded to the 1200 block of Huntington Drive for a report of a structure fire.
Upon arrival, they found a two-story duplex home with smoke showing.
After extinguishing the fire, fire crews found the woman inside the home. She was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been identified as 77-year-old Aliia Bowles, according to the Lake County Coroner's office.
An autopsy was conducted on Monday, but results are pending further medical studies, including toxicology tests to determine carbon monoxide levels.
The Mundelein deputy fire chief said getting into the home was tough, and part of the home's second floor collapsed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Mundelein Police Department and Mundelein Fire Department, local fire investigators, and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
