4 killed, 27 hurt in Chicago weekend shootings

CHICAGO (CBS) — At least three people were killed, and 24 others were hurt in weekend shootings across Chicago as of Sunday evening. 

The ages of the victims range from 16 to 68. 

Friday

In the first shooting of the weekend, a man was shot before crashing into a wall just before 7:30 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Woodlawn Avenue.

Chicago police officers responded to a traffic crash after being waved down by someone. They found the victim inside the car with a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest. The age of the victim is unknown.

He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition and later died.

About an hour later, a woman, 21, was grazed in the shoulder while sitting in a parked car in an alley in the 900 block of West 53rd Street just before 8:30 p.m. She was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition and was released.

The offender left the scene on foot.

 A man, 19, and another unknown male self-transported themselves to Illinois Masonic Hospital after suffering gunshot wounds.

The 19-year-old was struck in the leg and was in good condition. The second victim was struck twice in the torso and was in critical condition.

The time and location of where the shooting occurred is unknown.

Police say the two were uncooperative in providing details about the shooting.

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • At 9:50 p.m. in the 9600 block of South Loomis Street, two men, 31 and 27, were shot at while outside. The 31-year-old was shot in the shoulder and face and was taken to Christ Hospital in fair condition. The 27-year-old was shot multiple times in the torso and was taken to Little Company of Mary in critical condition. The victims were unable to provide further details of the incident.
  • At 11:09 p.m. in the 2700 block of South Lawndale Avenue, two men, 19 and 23, were traveling as passengers in a car when they were shot at by an unidentified offender. The 19-year-old was shot twice in the torso and was taken to Mt. Sinai in good condition. The 23-year-old was also struck once in the torso and was also taken to Mt. in critical condition. The victims were unable to provide further details and there is no one in custody.

Saturday 

  • At 2:05 a.m. in the 300 block of West Locust Street, police responded to a person shot and found a man, 34, who was shot in the foot. The victim was in an argument with another man who pulled out a firearm and shot the victim before leaving the scene. The victim was taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 2:57 a.m. in the 1600 block of East 84th Street, a man, 32, was found inside a residence with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the foot. A weapon was recovered, and the victim was taken to U of C in serious condition. There were no further injuries reported.
  • At 3:16 a.m. in the 6200 block of South Campbell Avenue, a man between 30 to 40 years of age was found by police with two gunshot wounds to the back. The victim was taken to Christ Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A witness told officers that the victim was shot at by an offender traveling in a car. 
  • At 4:30 a.m. in the 7400 block of South State Street, a man, 30, and an unknown male were in an argument that turned into a fight. The offender pulled out a firearm and shot the victim, striking him in the chest. The victim was pronounced dead. The offender fled northbound from the location in an SUV. No other injuries were reported. 
  • At 3:57 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Chicago, a man, about 25 years old, was shot in the leg and was transported to Stroger Hospital in fair condition. 
  • At 6:45 p.m. in the 3200 block of West Beach, a 68-year-old man was near the rear of a home when he was approached by an unknown person who fired shots. The victim suffered a graze wound to the ear and was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital and initially reported in fair condition. 
  • At 6:45 p.m. in the 2700 block of West Wilcox, a 16-year-old boy was near the sidewalk when he was approached by an unknown vehicle, and someone inside shot him in the arm. The teen self-transported to the University of Illinois Hospital, where he was initially reported in good condition. 
  • At 8:02 p.m. in the 2100 block of South May, a 35-year-old man was shot in the back, arm, and leg and was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was initially reported in good condition. 
  • At 11:23 p.m. in the 3100 block of South Green Street, police responded to a person shot and found a 35-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was outside in front of a residence when she began to feel pain. The victim was unable to provide further details of the incident and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. 

Sunday

  • Police responded to Stroger Hospital where a 24-year-old man was dropped off after being shot in the thigh at an unknown time and location. Police said the victim was not cooperating with detectives.
  • At 2:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, a 26-year-old man self-transported to a hospital after being shot twice in the leg and once in the lower back. The victim is listed in good condition. The victim related to officers that he was shot at by an unidentified man traveling in a vehicle. 
  • At 3:18 a.m. in the 1800 block of North Keeler, a 20-year-old man was standing outside when he was shot at by an unidentified man traveling in a dark-colored sedan. The victim was shot in the hand and taken to Mt. Sinai in fair condition.
  • At 4:47 a.m. in the 2800 block of East 87th Street, a 23-year-old man was standing outside when he was shot by an unidentified offender who was traveling in a dark-colored sedan. The victim sustained one gunshot wound to the left calf and was transported to U of C in good condition. No other injuries are reported.
  • At 6:20 a.m., a 23-year-old man walked into Stroger with a gunshot wound to his back and is in stable condition. Detectives were investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. On background, the victim is giving conflicting accounts of the incident. 
  • At 4;58p.m. in the 10800 block of South Indiana Avenue, a 22-year-old man was in an alley when he was shot in the neci. 
  • At 6:10 p.m. in the 6800 block of South Dante, a 39-year-old man was on the street when he was shot in the head by an unkown person. He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
  • At 7:10 p.m. in the 3900 block of West Madison, a 40-year-old man was on the side when an unknown vehicle pulled up and someone got out and started shooting. The victim was struck in both legs and was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. 
  • At 8:46 p.m. in the 3700 block of West Douglas Boulevard, officers found a 36-year-old woman on a porch who had been shot three times in the upper left shoulder and once in the left thigh. She was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition. A 54-year-old man was found in the street and had also been injured. He was shot twice in the elbow and was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 9:14 p.m. in the 2500 block of East 68th Street, a 54-year-old woman was driving when someone shot her in the right thigh. She was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. 
  • At 9:56 p.m. in the 6100 block of South King Drive, a 23-year-old woman was found on a kitchen floor with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
  • At 11 p.m. in the 3700 block of West 58th Street, two men got into an argument, when one of them pulled out a gun and fired several shots. A 39-year-old man was shot twice in the leg, and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition. The suspected shooter was arrested and a handgun was recovered at the scene.

Monday

  • At 1:14 a.m., in the 1400 block of West 70th Street, a 35-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk, when someone shot him in the upper back. The victim was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
  • At 3:01 a.m., in the 5600 block of South Prairie Avenue, a man was near his vehicle when six males approached, and one of them pulled out a gun and demanded his keys. The gunman shot the victim in the ankle, and all six carjackers got into his car and drove off.
