3 Chicago men charged in 2 separate fatal shootings on Dan Ryan Expressway
Three Chicago men were charged in connection with two separate expressway shootings in 2022 and 2024, Illinois State Police announced on Friday.
The first shooting happened on May 21, 2022, when, just after 8 p.m., state police responded to the northbound I-94 exit ramp to 47th Street.
The victim, 27-year-old Darren Jackson, was hit by gunfire and was taken to an area hospital, where she died.
Investigation into the shooting identified 33-year-old Demario Bass as the suspect.
Bass was taken into custody on Wednesday and was charged with first-degree murder. He remains held pending his first court appearance.
The second shooting happened around 5:13 p.m. on July 11, 2024, where officers responded to that shooting on northbound I-94 near 75th Street. A passenger inside a vehicle was hit by gunfire and died at an area hospital.
State police agents identified 30-year-old Demetrius Shields and 25-year-old Tyler Perkins as the suspects. Shields was placed into custody on Friday, April 11, and was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm.
The next day, Perkins was located in Texas by Houston police officers and arrested. He was then extradited back to Illinois and on Thursday was also charged with one count of First-Degree Murder and one count of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.
Shields and Perkins are held in custody.
