'Inert Replica' Of Hand Grenade Found At Goodwill
CHICAGO (STMW) - A woman working at a resale shop sorting merchandise found what she thought was a hand grenade Sunday afternoon on the Near West Side.
The incident happened at 12:39 p.m. at 1201 W. Washington Blvd., at a Goodwill resale shop, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
The item appeared to be a hand grenade and was found in merchandise from a drop-box that she was sorting, Mirbabelli said.
Police Bomb & Arson investigators were called to the scene and the area was cleared and cordoned off. Traffic was also blocked from coming anywhere near the building.
Officers found the item did not have the potential to pose any threat and deemed it was an "inert replica,'' of a hand grenade, the officer said.
"It did not have the potential to pose any threat,'' Mirabelli said.
