Security lines at TSA checkpoints improved at airports across the country on Monday as TSA officers started receiving back pay following President Trump's executive order. But uncertainty lingers with Congress on recess and still no funding passed for DHS.
Millions of people protested at "No Kings" rallies across the U.S. and Europe over the weekend against the Trump administration's policies and the war in Iran. Organizers estimate at least 8 million participated in more than 3,300 protests worldwide.
Travelers over the weekend experienced more long lines at Transportation Security Administration checkpoints after House Republicans rejected a deal passed by the Senate that could have ended the partial government shutdown. TSA workers may still soon get paid though, due to an executive order from President Trump. Jason Allen reports.
Airports around the U.S. continue to deal with long lines and short staffing after Congress once again failed to reach an agreement over Department of Homeland Security funding.
President Trump signed an executive action on Friday that promises to pay TSA workers immediately as Congress remains at odds over Department of Homeland Security funds and the partial shutdown drags on. New DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said TSA officers can expect paychecks as early as Monday.
The Treasury Department announced it is adding President Trump's signature to new U.S. paper currency. Historically, the bills only have the signatures of Treasury officials. The change is expected later this year.
President Trump said he's postponing attacks on Iran energy infrastructure for 10 days at Iran's request. While Mr. Trump says talks are going well, Iran denies any direct negotiations. Ed O'Keefe reports.
On Friday, the Senate unanimously voted to fund most of the Department of Homeland Security. Transportation Security Administration workers and other federal workers within DHS would receive paychecks again, but funding for ICE is not included in the package. The agreement came hours after President Trump said he would sign an executive order to immediately pay TSA officers. The bill now heads to the House.
Senators are set to try again on Thursday after a sixth attempt to advance a measure to fund DHS fell short of the 60-vote threshold needed for it to move forward. Ed O'Keefe breaks down what Republicans and Democrats want in negotiations.
President Trump is facing pushback from both parties over the Iran war. Much of the tension appears to be centered on the possibility of sending U.S. troops into Iran and what that would look like. House Armed Services committee chair Rep. Mike Rogers said lawmakers are "just not getting enough answers." Ed O'Keefe reports.
