U.S. increases military near Venezuela
U.S. military forces massing in the Caribbean near Venezuela are about to get a boost in their combat power. The Navy says the USS Gerald R. Ford is approaching Latin America. So far, the Pentagon's buildup in the region has been focused on taking out small boats suspected of carrying drugs. CBS News' Charlie D'Agata reports.
How long could travel disruptions continue?
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is pledging to pay air traffic controllers about 70% of their missed pay 24 to 48 hours after the government reopens, but reversing the FAA-mandated airline service cuts won't be immediate. Currently, 6% of flights have been cut at the country's busiest airports. CBS News' Kris Van Cleave reports.
House to vote on Senate-passed funding bill
The House will vote Wednesday on a spending bill that passed in the Senate earlier this week and could bring the longest government shutdown to an end. The legislation would extend funding for most agencies through late January, with some parts of the government funded for a full year. Democrats are largely expected to reject the measure, which does not include extending ACA subsidies.
