What is ringworm and how is it treated?

Despite the name, ringworm is not caused by a worm. Rather, it’s a fungal infection that appears on the skin as a pink or brown scaly, ring-shaped patch with a raised border. It spreads easily through close contact with an infected person, animal, or surface and can occur almost anywhere on the body.
