Woman Escapes Armed Kidnapping Attempt In Portsmouth, NH

PORTSMOUTH, NH (CBS) - A woman who was out shopping in Portsmouth, New Hampshire was nearly kidnapped at gunpoint Wednesday afternoon.

Portsmouth police say the woman had parked her car outside Ocean State Job Lot on Woodbury Ave. just after 1 p.m. when a man walked up, pulled a gun on her and told her to get back in the vehicle.

Police say the victim tried to offer money to the man, but he refused.

The victim managed to escape as the suspect forced his way into the car behind her.

Surveillance cameras captured the incident from a distance. (Incident occurs around 1:47 into the video.)

Police say the suspect took off running into the Gosling Meadows neighborhood.

Police recovered this jacket believed to belong to a suspect involved in an attempted kidnapping.

Officers were unable to track him down. Police did recover the man's distinctive old puffy ripped jacket and have provided a photo of it.

The suspect is described as a black man around 20 years old, with a smooth round face, dressed in baggy clothes.

Officers consider the man armed and dangerous. They're asking anyone with information to call.
