Welker On Rome: No Hard Feelings Towards Patriots
BOSTON (CBS) – Many were shocked when Wes Welker signed a two-year deal with the Denver Broncos, ending his six-year run as a New England Patriot.
But as everything came to light, and the Patriots signed Danny Amendola to a five-year deal, it appeared as though the Patriots were ready to move on from Welker.
The five-time Pro Bowl receiver joined CBS Sports Radio's Jim Rome on Wednesday, and tried to clear up what exactly happened with him and New England.
"That's a good question," said Welker. "Unfortunately it's part of the business side of it. I'm definitely excited about the opportunities in Denver, but there is definitely a little bit of sadness after leaving a place I'd been for six years and all the success we had. But it's part of it; you can't linger on too much, you just have to move on."
When asked if he had any hard feelings towards the Patriots, Welker responded "no, not at all," again bringing up how he understands the business side of the game.
And even though he and Tom Brady were disappointed they wouldn't be connecting on any more passes, the QB wished him well after getting over the initial shock that his favorite receiver the last six years was changing uniforms.
"Obviously we were both disappointed at the time and everything like that, but he understood the business side of it," Welker said of Brady. "He knows how things work and understood it. He was sad, but also happy for me."
