UMass Amherst Makes New Push For License Plate

BOSTON (CBS) - UMass Amherst is once again trying to get a new specialty license plate in Massachusetts.

If the Registry of Motor Vehicles approves, the new plate would be the first to support any college in the state.

It features Sam the Minuteman and the phrase "You were. You are. UMass."

The plate would cost $40 on top of the normal registry fees. That money will support scholarships and programs.

Students and employees who buy the plates would get 10-percent off their parking permits.

It's been two years since any non-profit has gotten a plate into production.

UMass tried in 2005 but couldn't get enough support.

If you're interested, you can apply for a plate online. UMass has also set up a Facebook page for the campaign.
