Mother, Daughter Found Dead After Londonderry Fire

LONDONDERRY, N.H. (CBS) – A mother and her adult daughter were found dead after an early morning fire at a home in Londonderry Wednesday.

The fire broke out in the house on Hemlock Street around 4:30 a.m.

WBZ-TV's Karen Anderson reports.

Four people in the home escaped, but the inferno prevented firefighters from reaching the women. Their names and ages have not been released.

"Our initial crews attempted to make entry, made it into the first floor, shortly thereafter they found it untenable for them to be in there, they had to pulled out," said Chief Kevin MacCaffrie of the Londonderry Fire Department.

The four survivors were treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters had a difficult time because the nearest hydrant was about 1,000 feet away from the home.

Investigators are trying to determine if smoke detectors in the house were working.

"I urge people to check their smoke alarms. Make sure they have a smoke alarm on every level of the home and check to see if they work," said Bill Degnan, the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal.

There's no word yet on how the fire started.

WBZ-TV's Karen Anderson contributed to this report.
