Tsarnaev Mention By Orlando Nightclub Shooter 'Troubling', Says Davis
BOSTON (CBS) -- For WBZ-TV Security Analyst Ed Davis, it's depressing that the Tsarnaev brothers name has come up again in connection to an act of terrorism.
"A little depressed that this is happening again," said Davis.
Davis headed Boston's Police Department during the marathon bombings.
The Orlando shooter called 911 20 minutes into the attack. He pledged his allegiance to ISIS and mentioned the Tsarnaev brothers. What he said has not been made public yet, but Massachusetts State Police has assured the gunman has no ties to Massachusetts.
"It's extremely troubling. I am listening very closely to see exactly what was said. I am just hoping that they are not using the Tsarnaevs as inspiration for other attacks that would make this a double tragedy," said Davis.
He relayed part of a conversation earlier Sunday.
"A little bit before I knew that, I was talking to the president of the BAA and I said finally we're moving beyond it, and just a couple hours later we get dragged back into by the mention of Tsarnaev," said Davis.
The FBI interviewed the Orlando shooter twice in previous terror-related investigations, but they were no longer actively monitoring him.
"The troubling part here is there is a pattern here. ISIS has been effective using the internet to radicalize and get people to carry out these horrific acts. And,we're engaged in a war right now. I think we have to recognize that and say that," said Davis.
