Top Arts & Crafts Classes And Activities For Kids In Boston

Whether it's a rainy day or the kids are going stir crazy from being inside all winter, Boston has a host of arts and crafts places for children to engage in activities and express their creative side. Arts and crafts isn't limited to finger painting and Popsicle sticks anymore; arts and crafts encompass a variety of activities such as mosaic, tie dye, pottery, drawing, clay, metals, canvas painting, even glass blowing. Don't worry mom and dad, some of these are for big kids too.

The Kids Place is a great craft option for those last-minute-desperation days because it welcomes drop-ins. Better still, schedule a party and Kids Place will come to you. Arts and crafts include plaster, ceramics, tie dye, gems, clay and mosaics. Children may choose to eat some of their art, sweet treats and sand art, a nice tasty reward after all of their hard work.

Mama and Me combines arts and crafts fun with important parent/child time. Geared toward younger children, classes are offered for toddlers to 5 year olds. Sessions run 13 weeks and are offered every season. Bond with your child as she/he learns the joy of imagination and creativity. Your child will explore with curiosity while using her/his senses to understand all art has to offer.

The Harvard Museum of Natural History offers professional art classes for children, which include drawing forest animals, sketching wild animals and exploring the colors and shapes of insects. These popular classes require registration and fill up fast. Children not only learn to draw and sketch but learn about animals at the same time.

The Brookline Arts Center offers arts and crafts classes for children as young as 2 and a range of activities that include drawing, painting, pottery, comics, watercolor, jewelry, puppets and enamels. Every season brings new classes, each of which runs 9 weeks. Registration for the summer session begins at the end of March. Members are offered the first opportunity to apply.

The Diablo Glass School affords a different experience for children ages 8 to 12. It provides an introduction to arts and crafts with glass using only fused glass and soft, easy-to-bend copper wire. Girls can have girls-only time making bracelets and necklaces. Another class offers the chance to make anything using scraps of fused glass and copper wire. Children younger than 8 are welcome with adult supervision.
