New Hampshire Police Return Boy's Stolen Bike--To Oregon
DUNBARTON, New Hampshire (CBS) -- When officer Christopher Remillard found a bicycle abandoned near a trail head in Dunbarton, he had no idea it had come from over 2,500 miles away.
Now, the Dunbarton Police Department is shipping the black Mongoose 270 bike back to the young boy it was stolen from in Jefferson, Oregon.
Officer Remillard found the bike, along with another larger one, at the end of Holiday Shore Drive in Dunbarton. A computer search revealed it had been stolen a year ago from Jefferson, a small town near Salem, while it's owner, ten-year-old Joseph, was playing outside with his friends.
Officer Remillard contacted the boy's mother, who told him the bike was very important to her son.
The department even put together some money to get the bike cleaned and tuned up at a Concord bike store.
"Joseph has no idea that the bike is being returned so it should be a nice surprise for him," read a post on the Dunbarton Police Department's Facebook page.
And of course, the police note reminded Joseph to always ride safe and wear a helmet.
