BOSTON (CBS) -- Red Sox knuckleballer Steven Wright is off the disabled list and will start against the Kansas City Royals at Fenway Park Friday night.
Wright, hasn't pitched since Aug. 5 in Los Angeles, was activated from the DL on Friday afternoon.
Wright injured his shoulder attempting to dive back to second base when he entered the game as a pinch runner on Aug. 7 against the Dodgers. He ended up missing two starts with shoulder inflammation.
The knuckleballer was coming off a complete-game shutout in Los Angeles when he suffered the injury. Wright had a rough July with a 6.23 ERA, but did go 4-0 in six starts. He has a 13-5 record and 3.01 ERA overall on the season.
Wright will oppose Kansas City's Ian Kennedy Friday night. Eduardo Rodriguez is also expected to make his return to the Red Sox rotation on Sunday, which means Clay Buchholz is headed back to the bullpen despite two strong outings in a row.
To make room for Wright on the Boston roster, releiver Heath Hembree was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket.
