Stanley Cup 'Extremely Special' For Cam Neely

BOSTON (CBS) - Cam Neely finally has his Stanley Cup.

"It's very special, extremely special," said the Bruins President moments after the Bruins won the 2011 Stanley Cup with a 4-0 Game 7 victory over the Vancouver Canucks. "It's hard to put into words, but this is a very special moment for the organization, the Jacobs family and our fan-base. They have deserved this."

Neely enjoyed a 13-year Hall of Fame career, but was never able to reach the promised land as a player. His career ended premature due to hip injuries after 395 goals and 299 assists without getting a championship ring.

But all of that changed Wednesday night.

"You dream about this and you kind of think what it might feel like," said Neely of winning the Cup. "But I can't even put it into words, it's incredible. I'm so proud of this team and the coaching staff."

He started his career as the ninth overall pick by Vancouver, his home-town team, in 1983. Neely was traded to Boston where he blossomed. Winning the cup in front of his family made it that much more meaningful.

"It's very special. I felt that my mom and dad have been watching, especially this series," said Neely, who lost both parents to cancer. "To have my wife and kids here, and also my sister and her family, it's a pretty special moment."

Neely was named team President June 16, 2010 and instilled his playing style to the team. He was confident in his team heading in to the winner-takes-all Game 7 Wednesday night.

"Our guys had a lot of confidence coming into this building in Game 7," he said. "We all realized we could play better, and if we do there's a good chance we win. These guys were so focused and so confident coming into Game 7, I just felt like we were going to take this game."

Now all that is left is a parade.

"It's going to be incredible. Our fans have deserved this for a long, long time," said Neely. "We've got the best fans; they're amazing, hardcore through and through Bruins fans. They deserve this, they absolutely deserve this."
