Sox & Papelbon agree to a 1 Year $9.35 Million Contract
The Red Sox and All-Star closer Jonathan Papelbon have agreed on a one year $9.35 million contract for 2010. Papelbon could have gone to arbitration.
In 2009 in 66 games, Papelbon was 1-1 with a 1.85 ERA and 38 saves. He worked 68 innings, giving up 54 hits, 24 walks, and 76 strikeouts.
The 4-time All-Star did go 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA in two postseason appearances last year. He took the loss in Game 3 of the ALDS against the Angels as they finished off a sweep.
Papelbon had entered the 2009 postseason having not given up a run in 25 innings.
