Areas between the south coast and Mass Pike are seeing slippery conditions as a mix of sleet and freezing rain produced a coating of ice.

The Foxboro Fire Department responded to a three-car crash on I-95 South, with one patient taken to the hospital.

"The roads are very slippery; slow down and take your time," the department tweeted.

In Bourne, two teenagers suffered life-threatening injuries after their pickup truck slid off an icy Route 28 and into a tree.

And a spokesman for the Duxbury Fire Department asked drivers to move over for emergency vehicles because they are handling "numerous crashes." The department shared photos of a car into the woods and a spinout.

Along the Mass Pike in Natick, drivers were taking it slow.

"Bad. It's bad. A couple cars spun off already," Steven Francis, who was on his way to New York, said.

Public works crews worked through the night in an effort to pre-treat the major roadways and trouble spots.

"All the sanders will be loaded up and ready to go. We use liquid magnesium if it gets cold enough to create a more of a salt-brine effect with the salt. That's really the best we can do," Dan Nau, Framingham's highway director, said.

MassDOT said it had more than 1,600 crews treating state roads as of 4 p.m. The agency is reminding drivers to take it slow, and don't crowd the plow.
