11-year-old boy critically injured after being struck by car while crossing road in Baltimore

An 11-year-old boy was seriously injured after he was struck by a car while attempting to cross the street in Baltimore on Tuesday morning.

The boy was rushed to an area hospital and is in critical condition after he was struck around 8:40 a.m. in the 2300 block of Harford Road, police said.

The driver remained at the scene, and Baltimore police's Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.

Neighbors said ongoing construction in the area has created a dangerous traffic pattern and raised concerns about children walking to and from school.

"Traffic is just so fast and nobody slows down right there, they'll never slow down," Antonio said. "How many more babies are going to have to get hit? The school year just started."

The crash is the latest vehicle-pedestrian collision involving children in the Baltimore area.

Last Friday, multiple students from Baltimore County's Dundalk High School were struck by a car and injured shortly after school let out.

That crash happened around 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of Devale and Holabird avenues.

Baltimore County police said a 2012 blue Honda Accord left the roadway and went onto the sidewalk after striking a curb, hitting multiple pedestrians.

At least six juveniles were taken to area hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.

Video from the scene appeared to show the vehicle partially on the sidewalk near a bush.

School officials confirmed several of the victims were Dundalk High School students.
