Search Suspended For Possible Missing Paraglider In Water Off Seabrook, NH
SEABROOK, New Hampshire (CBS) -- The Coast Guard suspended their search around 12:40 p.m. Monday for a potential paraglider in distress off Seabrook, New Hampshire. Nothing was found.
A total of 18 hours was spent on the search and 201 square nautical miles were covered, the Coast Guard said.
Crews responded a 911 call about a possible paraglider in distress around 7:30 p.m. Sunday night. The caller said the person in the water was about 600 yards from the shore.
Two 47-foot motor lifeboats, a 29-foot response boat, MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry plane, along with their corresponding crews assisted in the search.
Seabrook, Salisbury, and Hampton Police and Fire Departments were also involved, along with the New Hampshire Marine Patrol.
While the search was ongoing, Coast Guard Petty Officer Wayne Walker told WBZ-TV, "We're still out there trying to find whatever is in the water if the person is still out there we are still looking for them."
He had added, "[The Coast Guard is] talking to the reporting source that called 911 to see what exactly they saw, where exactly they saw it go down. We're trying to get those finer details to give our crews a better idea of what they're looking for."
