ROXBURY — One man is dead after a shooting at an apartment complex on Weaver Way in Roxbury.

Caution tape blocked the entrance to the complex after police responded to a 911 call of a person shot.

Police and investigators were on the scene Saturday afternoon and into the evening hours trying to piece together exactly what happened and who was involved.

"The victim is an adult male," said James Miller, Deputy Superintendent for the Boston Police Department.

The victim died on the scene, triggering an investigation that included Boston Police detectives and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

"It's obviously a tragedy anytime this happens," said Miller. "One is too many for any neighborhood."

Just moments after police arrived on Weaver Way, faith leaders and community advocates did too, offering support for neighbors shocked by the violence.

"We continue to express our condolences," says the founder of New Democracy Coalition, Reverend Kevin Peterson, who called on the city to step up response for communities plagued by violence.

"We, unfortunately, live within a triangle of homicide and death that extends from the South End and includes Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan where there is persistent homicide and murder unlike any other place in the city," he said. "We remain concerned police and the community are not working together in a very functional way."

The Reverend proposed several solutions for recent gun violence when asked by WBZ.

"Could include self-imposed curfews the church adopting specific neighborhoods… knocking on doors… providing information but also providing care. We have to collectively work to get guns off the street and out of our homes," suggested Rev. Peterson.

The victim of Saturday's shooting and the suspect or suspects involved have not been identified.

Officials say they should know more in the coming days but ask anyone with any information to come forward.
