Robi On The Road: Man Turns Drone Hobby Into Successful Business

BOSTON (CBS) – When you think of drones you may imagine unmanned military planes or the mini-helicopters Amazon would like to use to deliver packages.

We tracked down a man from the Boston area who has turned his hobby of drone flying into a business.

Nick Cosky calls his business "Three If By Air," a play on words from the Longfellow poem "Paul Revere's Ride."

Cosky straps a GoPro camera to the bottom of his drone and sells the aerial videos to clients like realtors and hosts of outdoor special events.

As of now the Federal Aviation Administration has not released official regulations governing drones. So, Cosky plays it safe by keeping his drone below 500 feet and never flying in commercial airspace.

The drone enthusiast travels to spots like Frog Pond on Boston Common, and he always gets reactions from people about the emerging technology that is his hobby.

But has anyone ever been intimidated to see the strange looking gadget take flight?

"No. Everybody is shocked at how quiet it is," said Cosky.
