Rex Ryan On How To Stop Gronk And Bennett: 'I Have No Idea'

BOSTON (CBS) -- Rex Ryan is considered to be a defensive mastermind. The New York Times once referred to his having  "a beautiful football mind." He coached the D-line on the 2000 Ravens, which is thought of as one of the best defenses of all time.

Put simply, the man knows how to coach a defense.

But when it comes to drawing up a game-plan to stop the Patriots' new dual tight end threat, Ryan has no solution.

"I have no idea,"Ryan said when asked how to stop Rob Gronkowski and Martellus Bennett, per ESPN. "I just think it's unusual to have two guys that are like 6-7 and can run, catch, block. So, yeah, it's going to be a major challenge. There's no doubt about that. It's scary when you look at them. Those are two huge guys. How we're going to defend them, I don't know."

Gronkowski has established himself as the most physically dominant tight end in football, and perhaps in the history of the sport. At 6-foot-6 and 265 pounds, Gronkowski has rare speed, quickness and hands that make him a nightmare for opposing coaches and defenses. And that's when he's alone.

Add in Bennett, who at 6-foot-6 and 273 pounds is bigger than Gronkowski and is capable of hauling in as many as 90 passes in a season? That spells trouble for Patriots opponents in 2016.

And that includes the mastermind in Buffalo.
