Rockport Man Shot In Possible Revere Road Rage Incident

REVERE (CBS) -- State and local police are investigating a frightening incident in Revere, as bullets flew on a busy roadway over the weekend.

It happened Sunday night around 8. A father and son from Rockport were driving along Route 60, when suddenly somebody opened fire on their SUV.

The 19-year-old son was hit in the neck by one bullet. Police say four-to-10 shots were fired, possibly from a dark-colored sedan with tinted windows. The vehicle may have been an Audi or Acura, possibly with multiple people inside.

"It's one of two things that come to mind," says Revere Police Chief Joseph Cafarelli. "Possibly it's a road rage incident, or a mistaken identity of some sort. We're just not sure exactly where that's going to fall at this point."

People living along the road could clearly hear the shots.

"They were searching up and down the street with flashlights for anything," said one resident. "They told me there was like 10 shots fired...It's pretty crazy."

Hours later around 3 a.m. Monday, there was also a report of shots fired in Chelsea. Police are checking to see if there's a connection.

Police say the victim is in stable condition at Massachusetts General Hospital. Sources told WBZ the bullet entered his neck close to his right ear and became lodged in the roof of his mouth.

No arrests have been made in the case.
