Report: Tom Brady Signs Two-Year Contract Extension With Patriots
BOSTON (CBS) -- Tom Brady is sticking around.
Not that it was ever in doubt, really, but the quarterback agreed to a two-year contract extension that will keep him signed with New England through the 2019 season, according to Adam Schefter.
Brady, who will turn 39 years old in August, has stated that he hopes to play into his 40s, and the signing of this extension gives him that opportunity.
The extension will likely raise speculation of potential Jimmy Garoppolo trades heading into April's draft, as the backup quarterback could be enticing to teams looking for a signal-caller in a draft that's weak on QBs.
Last season, Brady led the NFL with 36 touchdowns, and he also led the league with an interception percentage of 1.1 percent. He threw for 4,770 yards, the fourth-highest total of his career. He finished fourth in the NFL in passer rating, and he was one of just three players to receive a vote for MVP. (Cam Newton won the award, garnering 48 of the 50 votes, while Brady and Carson Palmer received one vote apiece.)
Previously, Brady restructured his contract last January to help free up cap space. In 2013, he signed a three-year extension which had him under contract through the 2017 season, and the news now adds two more years on top of that.
