Donald Jones Signs With Patriots
BOSTON (CBS) -- With the dust still not settled on the Wes Welker departure and Danny Amendola arrival this week in New England, the Patriots have added another wide receiver.
Donald Jones has signed a deal with the Patriots. The team announced the deal on Friday afternoon, after it was originally reported earlier in the day by ESPN's Adam Schefter (via Twitter).
Jones, 25, has spent the last three seasons in Buffalo. Last year, he caught 41 passes for 443 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games. The 6-foot, 208-pound receiver was due to become a restricted free agent, but the Bills elected to not tender him a contract.
In his career, Jones has 82 receptions for 887 yards and six touchdowns. Last season, in two games against the Patriots, Jones caught eight passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns, which undoubtedly caught Bill Belichick's eye. In 2011, Jones caught five passes for 101 yards in his only game against New England, too. Overall, Jones' 319 receiving yards by far his most against any opponent, as he doe not have more than 91 yards against any other team.
The addition of Jones could put Brandon Lloyd's future with the Patriots in doubt. The team has until Saturday to decide to keep him on the roster and pay him his $3 million option bonus. The Patriots signed Amendola earlier this week to help fill the void left by Welker.
