Red Sox Roster Moves: Ranaudo, Wilson Optioned To Pawtucket

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Red Sox made their first round of spring roster moves on Thursday, assigning 12 players to either Pawtucket or Boston's minor league camp.

The following moves were announced by Red Sox GM Ben Cherington:

- Right-handed pitchers Anthony Ranaudo and Alex Wilson, infielder Garin Cecchini, and outfielders Bryce Brentz and Alex Hassan were optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket.

- Right-handed pitchers Matt Barnes, Miguel Celestino and Noe Ramirez, left-handed pitcher Henry Owens, catcher Blake Swihart, and infielders Heiker Meneses and Travis Shaw were reassigned to minor league camp.

Ranaudo, a first round pick by Boston in 2010, was 11-5 with a 2.96 ERAin 25 games (24 starts) in 2013 between Double- A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket. But the 24-year-old struggled this spring, allowing five runs (three earned) off seven hits and four walks in 5.1 innings pitched.

Wilson, a second round pick by the Red Sox in 2009, allowed four earned runs over 3.1 innings pitched this spring. He made his MLB debut with the Red Sox last season, and went 1-1 with a 4.88 ERA in 26 relief in Boston.

With Thursday's moves, the Red Sox now have 46 players in big league camp, including 35 players from the 40-man roster and 11 non-roster invitees.
