R.I.P. Margaret O'Brien

A quick posting today,  if for no other reason, to explain my absence for the past 10-days.Gary LaPierre

Our family buried my Mother-In-Law yesterday, August 24th and I do hope Margaret O'Brien is resting in peace today.   I had known her for just short of 50-years and she survived this world for just short of 102-years.

One hundred and two years on the face of this earth is a major accomplishment in itself, but even more amazing is the survival of 102-years  without ever drawing an adverse word in her direction.   She was fun and she was funny.  She was full of life, always  ready for the adventure and never unwilling to accept the next challenge.   Oh yes she was feisty, even with her favorite son-in-law occasionally, and since I was her only son-in-law, I never failed to remind her..."I was the favorite."

Born in 1908, Margaret did it all, and did it well.   She was a "Rosy the Riveter" as a child during the "big war", she went on to marry Reading's Eddie O'Brien where they owned and operated the Rockport  Fish Market for many years.  She travelled the world after Eddie's early passing in the 1960's, she lived with her daughter and "favorite son-in-law" for a few years in the 70's until she decided, it's time she had her own "pad" and went off to live on her own.

But Margaret was never alone.   She drew her last breath, surrounded by her children and loved ones, and is now with her beloved Eddie again, I'm sure  smiling down on the rest of us who will miss her....a lot.

God speed Margaret O"Brien.... after 102 years, you deserve a rest.
