Quincy-Born Maj. Gen McConville Named Commander Of 101st Airborne
FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) -- The military has announced a new commander for the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell, Ky., as the division returned from a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan.
Maj. Gen. James McConville of Quincy, Mass., will be the next commander for the famed Screaming Eagles at the installation on the Tennessee-Kentucky state line. His appointment was announced Friday, just as the current commanding general, Maj. Gen. John F. Campbell, returned home from Afghanistan.
McConville currently serves as the chief legislative liaison in the office of the Secretary of the Army. He previously served as a deputy commanding general for the 101st during the division's last Afghanistan deployment from 2008-2009. He is a master Army aviator who is qualified to fly several types of helicopters.
