PLYMOUTH – A Plymouth boy is searching for a lost necklace that has a deeply personal meaning. Melissa Moriarty said her grandson was on the soccer field at West Elementary School and lost a necklace with his mother's ashes in it.

"It was just heartbreaking," Moriarty said.

For three years, Moriarty's 10-year-old grandson Connor has been carrying the locket. Connor's mother died in a car crash in 2020 at the age of 31.

"He wears it all the time, he never takes it off, the only time he takes it off is when he takes a shower," Moriarty said.

But last Thursday, Melissa learned the heart shaped locket was gone.

"I was like what? He said, 'Connor lost his mom' and he said he lost the necklace and everything and I was just like oh my goodness. So, it's been like my stomach has been in knots since then," Moriarty said.

Connor had been practicing soccer at West Elementary when he fell down and somehow lost it. "Soccer practice stopped, and everyone went looking for it," Moriarty said.

Melissa took to social media to get help and the response has been amazing. "My phone's been blowing up, I've had people call my work," she said.

Strangers and neighbors have been scouring the fields. "One person was doing it in the rain, in the pouring rain," she said.

She hopes that outpouring of support will help find a piece of her family. But it's enough just knowing the community cares. "It's so heartfelt to know that there's people out there that care," Moriarty said.

Anyone who finds the necklace is encouraged to call the Plymouth Police Department.
