Patriots Take OLB Carter Of Central Arkansas
BOSTON (AP) - The New England Patriots have drafted outside linebacker Markell Carter of Central Arkansas in the sixth round.
He's only the second defensive player of the first eight players chosen by the Patriots with one choice left in the seventh round. On Friday, they chose cornerback Ras-I Dowling of Virginia with the first pick in the second round.
New England went into the draft needing to improve its pass rush but waited until the 194th pick of the draft to choose a player at a position that could provide that help when they took Carter.
Earlier Saturday, the Patriots chose offensive lineman Marcus Cannon of TCU and tight end Lee Smith of Marshall.
