Patriots Sign DL Anthony Johnson, Trade LB Jonathan Bostic To Lions

BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Patriots announced two transactions Monday evening. The team signed former Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Anthony Johnson and traded linebacker Jonathan Bostic to the Detroit Lions for what they called an "undisclosed draft pick." Additional reports said the pick is of the conditional variety while Ben Volin of the Boston Globe tweeted that it is a seventh-round pick in 2017.

Johnson, 22, began his career with the Miami Dolphins out of Louisiana State. He signed with the Washington Redskins practice squad in November 2015 and was cut on May 2.

Bostic, 25, played in 11 games and started one for the Patriots in 2015, recording one defensive tackle and two special teams tackles. He returns to the NFC North, where he formerly played for the Chicago Bears before being sent to New England for a sixth-round pick last season. Lions GM Bob Quinn worked for the Patriots from 2000-2015, working his way up to director of pro scouting before signing with Detroit. This likely will not be the last time he and Bill Belichick make a deal.
