Patriots Rookies Given Haircuts By Veterans

BOSTON (CBS) -  Cutting down their roster wasn't the only trimming done by the New England Patriots on Tuesday.

In an annual tradition, Patriots rookies were given haircuts by the veterans.

With a trio of rookie receivers at his disposal, quarterback Tom Brady manned the shears for his new targets. Aaron Dobson, Kenbrell Thompkins and Josh Boyce all got new looks.

"They look good don't they? It was fun today," Brady told the media after playing barber. "Probably the most exciting part of camp was watching all that hair come off."

Veteran receiver Danny Amendola tweeted out a picture with Boyce, who he referred to as "Uncle Josh" thanks to the 22-year-old's new hairline.

"I gave Josh Boyce the Homer Simpson, old-man balding (look)," said Amendola. "It was fun."

Defensive lineman Scott Vallone received a similar cut to Boyce's, though the veterans left him a little spot of hair on the top of his head.

Other haircuts included a friar tuck look for Dobson, Rookie running back George Winn had his number 35 buzzed into the side of his head.

Patriots defensive end Rob Ninkovich said he was sparred getting a haircut when he was a rookie with the New Orleans Saints, but had to do other things as part of his rookie initiation.

"I kept my hair, so I was pretty lucky," he said, "but I had to sing some songs and go buy Popeye's chicken every weekend. That was my rookie thing."

Tom Brady wasn't as lucky when he first started with the Patriots.

"I don't know what I started with. I ended up with it being completely shaved off for the first game," he recalled. "That was fun down there at Bryant college. Ty Law and Lawyer Milloy got me pretty good."

But according to Amendola, the rookies won't have their new look for long.

"We're only making them have it for a day. That's better than a week, and I don't even think they have to have it for the game (on Thursday)," he said. " It was fun to mess with these guys a little bit."
