Patriots Coach Bill Belichick's Mother Dies At 98

FOXBORO (CBS) – Patriots head coach Bill Belichick's mother, Jeannette, died Monday. She was 98 years old.

Belichick's father, Steve, died in 2005 at 85.

Jeannette and Steve met in the 1940s while they both worked at Hiram College in Ohio. Jeannette taught Spanish and French while Steve was head football, basketball and track coach.

Jennifer Schuller, vice president for development and alumni relations at Hiram College, issued a statement about Jeannette Belichick's death.

We are saddened by the passing of Hiram College alumna and beloved former faculty member, Jeannette Belichick '42. It is evident through documented stories and the plaques that hang on our walls that Jeanette loved to share her gift of the language arts through the teaching of countless Hiram students. She left a lasting impression on the College, as did her husband, Coach Steve Belichick, who was coaching three sports when they met on Hiram's campus in the late 1940's. The story goes that it was a classic case of opposites attract. Steve was a highly focused and determined coach, while Jeannette was a sophisticated foreign language professor with a love for classical music.

To honor his parents, Belichick made a "sizable, but undisclosed" donation to the school in 2015.

The donation's impact included the naming of the Jeannette Munn Belichick '42 Reading Room, and the creation of the Jeannette Munn Belichick '42 Endowed Fund. The fund supports the Hiram College Library in purchasing books and other resources related to foreign languages, the school said.

It also allowed for the college to dedicate the Coach Steve Belichick Olympic Training Center.

"Though their impacts upon Hiram students were in very different areas, Jeannette and Steve's legacy is still very much alive on our campus today," Schuller said.
