Patriots Reportedly Work Out Free-Agent Former Bills WR Mike Williams

BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Patriots are ramping back up in free agency and continue to look at the wide receiver position. The team reportedly welcomed free-agent wide receiver Mike Williams for a workout, a league source told Ben Volin of the Boston Globe.
Williams, 28, last played in the NFL for the Buffalo Bills in 2014, playing in just nine games and recording eight catches for 142 yards with one touchdown. Should he sign with the Patriots, he would be another tall, big-play outside receiver in the same vein as the recently signed Nate Washington.
After being cut by the Bills in December 2014, Williams was suspended three weeks by the NFL for an undisclosed reason in September 2015 and never signed with a team. Off-field trouble has seemed to follow Williams throughout his career, dating back to a 2008 suspension at Syracuse for academic reasons.
The Patriots also worked out former New York Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland, and signed former Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Clay Harbor and former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback E.J. Biggers.
