Patrick Nominates Agnes Nominated For State Appeals Court

BOSTON (AP) -- Gov. Deval Patrick has nominated Superior Court Judge Peter Agnes for a seat on the state appeals court.

Agnes, a Wayland resident, once served as chief of operations to Gov. Michael Dukakis and later as an assistant state secretary of public safety.

Agnes has been a Superior Court judge since 2000 and last year was named the regional administrative judge for Worcester.

Patrick has also nominated William Rosen to serve as Hampshire County Register of Probate and Brian Lawlor for clerk-magistrate of Salem District Court.

The nominations must be approved by the Governor's Council.

Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Roderick Ireland and William Mulligan, the court's chief justice for administration and management, recently asked Patrick to consider a freeze on judicial appointments to save money for the cash-strapped system.
