BOSTON (CBS) - New Kid of the Block and hometown star Joey McIntyre returned home to run his first Boston Marathon for Alzheimer's Disease research.

McIntyre finished the race just under four hours at 3:57:06.

Prior to the start, McIntyre told WBZ-TV's Steve Burton that he was thrilled to be a part of the marathon.

McIntyre raised over $30,000 for the Alzheimer's Association in honor of his mother who has the disease.

His first marathon, McIntyre said he would be taking some good advice.

"They say the first 10 miles to put a smoking jacket on and chill," McIntyre said. "The adrenaline and experience will take me there, I'll be all right."

McIntyre said he would have plenty of company on the course with his sisters and brother cheering him on.

"I'm going to high-five as many people as I can," he said before the start.
