Keller @ Large: Resolving To Be Less Critical Of Boston Drivers

BOSTON (CBS) - The new year is right around the corner, and with it comes the ritual of New Year's resolutions.

These are usually best kept private, lest you get caught breaking them by January 3rd.

Still, I'm going to make one of my resolutions public – I resolve to be less critical of Boston-area drivers.

You regulars know that this is a chronic topic of mine, and I promise to try to be more forgiving of the rank irresponsibility I see on the local roads during 2016.

But hey, it's still 2015. So here's one last shot before I go on the wagon.

To the person I saw on Soldiers Field Road Wednesday, swerving between lanes as they tried unsuccessfully to see past the snow and ice completely covering the bottom half of their windshield:

Sir or madam, I understand the storm was the first of the season. Perhaps your scraper was broken or lost. But it was two in the afternoon when I saw you endangering others. To me that suggests you had plenty of time to figure out a way to remove the snow blocking your vision before you headed out into traffic.

What were you thinking? Don't answer that, I know the answer.

You were thinking 'I'm in a rush, I can't be bothered to make the effort to drive safely, and I definitely can't be bothered to think of others, even for a moment.'

In other words, you didn't think.

Just like all the other drivers around here who lead with their egos instead of whatever brains they might have.

OK, I promise, that's the last time – this year.
