MBTA's Evening, Weekend Service Face Possible Cuts

BOSTON (CBS) – The MBTA could be making some major financial changes in the next few years.

Outgoing General Manager Richard Davey said Tuesday that budget problems will force the agency to make some serious cuts.

"We're going to be looking at, I hope, targeted cuts, if we even make cuts. Obviously evening and weekend service, particularly on commuter rail, is one area we'll look at," he told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

Davey says they're trying to close the deficit without a meaningful impact for customers, but it is expected to grow in the next four years, so everything's on the table, including possible fare hikes.
