Maynard Firefighter Charged With Raping Child In 1991

MAYNARD (CBS) – A Maynard firefighter was arrested Thursday on charges that he raped a child more than two decades ago.

James MacGillivary, 59, was placed on administrative leave on Feb. 5 as police began an investigation of sexual assault allegations from an incident that allegedly took place in 1991.

MacGillivary was arrested at his home on Thursday.

The Maynard resident has been a member of the fire department since 1986.

Town officials say they will hold a termination hearing in early March.

MacGillivary is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Middlesex Superior Court.

"This is a deeply disturbing case involving serious allegations," Maynard Police Chief Mark Dubois said. "Our detectives conducted a thorough investigation, working with the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, to determine the appropriate course of action."
