Mass Held In Boston For Victims Of Haiti Earthquake 5/22/10
Two Boston churches held a memorial Mass Saturday for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
It was held at St. Matthew's Church in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood.
During the Mass, names of relatives and friends who died during the Jan. 12 earthquake were placed in a burial box.
Following the Mass, a funeral procession to New Calvary Cemetary in Mattapan was held. That's where the burial box entombed beneath a headstone.
The event was sponsored by Rev. William Joy, pastor of St. Angela's and St. Matthew's parishes.
The earthquake killed an estimated 230,000, many of them with relatives in the greater Boston area.
