Mashpee Man Charged With Secretly Recording Tanning Salon Customers
BARNSTABLE (CBS/AP) — A Mashpee man was released on $1,000 bail after he was charged with secretly recording customers at the Barnstable tanning salon where he worked.
Police say they arrested 47-year-old Luis Macedo on Sunday after woman tanning at Sunsational Tanning in Hyannis noticed a camera lens beneath her feet while she was in a booth at the salon.
At his arraignment Monday, the judge ordered that Macedo not have any contact with the victims and surrender his passport.
Police set up surveillance, which helped them identify Macedo as he positioned his cellphone in a changing room, where officers also found a concealed peephole.
Police say they recovered more than 20 videos from Macedo's cellphone.
"She noticed what she thought was a camera at her feet in the tanning booth, " said Sgt. Sean Sweeney, "so we sent an undercover officer to the business. And our officer could see the clerk put his cellphone up to a kind-of peep hole in the changing room. After Mr. Macedo was arrested, and we examined his cell phone, we saw there were 21 photographs, some taken in the changing room, some in the tanning booth."
He was charged with two counts of secretly video recording or photographing nudity.
Macedo could not be reached.
